groom your dog

As seasons change, your pups grooming needs may as well. As summer comes to a close, you may be wondering how you should groom your dog for the coming fall and winter seasons. We have some expert tips for you that can help you feel confident about grooming your dog.

Keep reading from some tips and tricks that can keep your furry friend happy and healthy in the chillier months.

1. Maintain a Regular Grooming Schedule

It may seem like the best thing to do for your dog during colder months is to leave their hair long, which may lead to a pause in grooming appointments. However, it's important to keep your dog on a regular grooming schedule. If your dog misses out on regular grooming, it can lead to irritation.

Grooming can help remove dead skin cells, pollens, and other irritants that build up in dog's fur and on their skin. Regular grooming sessions can help to avoid a build-up of these irritants, and can also prevent from matting of the fur.

Regular grooming sessions can help to keep your dogs skin and coat healthy and clean, while reaching issue areas where irritants can build-up, such as the ears. Get your dogs nailed trimmed during each grooming appointment to keep their nails short, healthy, and safe. Regular grooming can not only keep your dog looking great, but it can also cut down on the amount of fur your dog will shed around your house.

2. Look Out for Seasonal Allergies

Similarly to humans, dogs can also be affected by different allergies based on the season. Keep an eye out for any changes in your dog's health or behaviors as fall and winter approaches, as allergen levels are often especially high in fall.

If your dog suffers from seasonal allergies, regular grooming can help to remove allergens like pollen that can cause your dog to itch, which could lead to infection. If your dog suffers from skin allergies or skin diseases, regular bathing, and grooming on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule can help to relieve some of their symptoms.

3. Moisturization Is a Must

Do you ever experience dry or cracky hands as cold weather approaches? Your dog paws may be having a similar reaction. Ask your groomer to use a moisturizing or soothing balm on your dog's paws during their grooming to calm their irritated and sensitive paws.

Professional dog grooming services will also have high-quality shampoos that will moisturize your dog's skin and fur. This is especially important in colder months, as your dog is more likely to get dryer skin.

Why You Should Groom Your Dog In Fall

As you can see, there are tons of reasons why you should groom your dog in the fall and winter months. Your dog's grooming needs will depend on their unique skin and coat type, but all dogs can benefit from routine grooming sessions. Keep your dog clean, healthy, and safe with these grooming tips and tricks.
